Cold and flu
A cold is an infection which affects the nose and throat. Colds are caused by viruses - there are over 200 different types of viruses that can cause the cold. Colds are not serious, but they can lead to other infections, especially in children.
Flu (influenza) is a common and highly contagious virus that affects your respiratory system. It is not the same as the common cold. It can be a mild to serious illness, and can cause death in young children, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
