Protect yourself from measles

The Department of Health has recently detected two separate cases of measles in returning overseas travellers.
Measles is one of the most easily spread infections – but due to immunisation rates, measles infection is rare in Australia and cases are usually acquired overseas.
Information about the latest cases of measles, including exposure sites, is available via the health alerts:
Community members who have visited the exposure sites and have signs or symptoms of measles should get tested. The first symptoms of measles include:
- fever
- tiredness
- runny nose
- cough
- sore red eyes.
Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease and the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine is available. Learn more about the MMR vaccine.
