The Australian Immunisation Handbook (external site) recommends Q Fever vaccination for people at higher risk of exposure to Coxiella burnetii, including:
  • Abattoir and meat processing workers
  • Farmers and livestock handlers
  • Veterinarians and veterinary workers
  • Wildlife and laboratory workers
  • Animal transporters
Becoming a Q fever vaccination provider

Whilst there is no longer a formal requirement for Q fever vaccination providers to complete accreditation or a competency framework, the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine's Q Fever - Early Diagnosis and Vaccination (external site) online training module is highly recommended for all providers who administer Q fever vaccine.

Ordering the Q fever vaccine

Immunisation providers first need to place a request for supply to Seqirus CSL.

The Seqirus CSL Customer Service team will contact the provider to arrange for a purchase order to be placed via the provider’s preferred wholesaler.

Vaccine administration and pre-vaccination testing
Health care professionals (HCP) wishing to access information on Q Fever vaccine administration and pre-vaccination testing should go to the Q fever facts (external site). To access the portal HCP’s can register with their AHPRA number (go to the 'Healthcare Professional Log In' button at top right of the page).
List of Q fever vaccinators in WA

WA Health is not responsible for the registration or administration of the Q fever vaccine.

The 'find a vaccinator' list was previously managed by the Australian Meat Processor Corporation (AMPR) - Supporting the red meat processing industry throughout Australia (ampc.com.au) (external site), but this is no longer available.

CSL Seqirus has provided a WA Q Fever vaccinator list while all efforts are made to keep this list current, it is recommended that individuals who would like to receive a Q fever vaccine should contact their preferred provider first to ensure that they are still offering Q fever vaccination.
