Operating Theatres

The Operating Theatres Complex at Perth Children's Hospital features 11 operating theatres in a specially controlled environment. Our department provides a service for elective and emergency surgery and interventional procedures.

We have the State’s first intra-operative MRI (iMRI) that will allow patients who are undergoing neurosurgery and other specialised operations to have an MRI during their operation, without having to leave the theatre complex. The iMRI will decrease the need for more surgery, improve recovery rates and decrease infection rates.

An 18-bay Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) is located near the complex on Level 3. In this area, patients will be awakened from their anaesthetic. One parent or carer will be allowed in to be with their child as soon as the child is sufficiently awake.

The Operating Theatre Complex and PACU have direct access to the Surgical Admissions Centre and Surgical Short Stay Unit, Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
