Why I joined the program
Having worked in support roles in WA Health during my studies at university, I knew that WA Health was a great place to work. I chose the Graduate Development Program as a way of gaining a broad overview of WA Health. The GDP provides an opportunity to develop my career in computer related fields within the health system.
Why I chose to work at WA Health
I had a relationship with WA Health throughout my university studies as I had worked for Patient Support Services and Medical Records. The Graduate Program is providing me with insights into how the Health Information Network (HIN) provides a variety of information and communication technology services to the whole of WA Health.
The best aspects of the program
The best part of the program has been getting exposure in my placements to HIN and all its different functions. The organisation undertakes work I did not even know about. As part of my current role in e-learning development, I am discovering various projects that are implemented and utilised across the system. Working in HIN is a journey of discovery – there is always something much bigger going on behind the scenes in WA Health.

I attended Murdoch University where I completed a Bachelor of Digital Media.

Why I joined the program
I felt that the Graduate Development Program was a good way to transition from my student career to full-time employment. The program offers opportunities to grow and develop skills that might have only been theoretical in my university environment. I chose this particular program because I knew the work I would do would benefit others.
Why I chose to work at WA Health
I felt the work I would do with WA Health would be meaningful, and I saw it as an opportunity to give back to the health system that has supported me, my friends and family over the years. Additionally, WA Health promotes a work-life balance through flexible working hours and a supportive working environment.
The best aspects of the program
The people. Everyone I have met, whether it’s been within my workplace, outside networks, leaders of the program, my fellow graduates or during professional development have been eager to help me and others, and willingly shared their knowledge. Having a buddy and mentor for guidance has really eased the transition from student to employee.
