Celebrate safely this Australia Day

Make the most your Australia Day long weekend and reduce your chance of illness or injury by following these tips.

  • If you are going to be drinking alcohol eat a proper meal before you start and snack throughout the day
  • Space your drinks and drink plenty of water in between alcoholic drinks to avoid dehydration
  • Make sure you have a designated driver to get you and your friends home safely
  • Keep within the recommended NHMRC guidelines (external site) of not drinking more than 4 standard drinks on a single occasion
  • Keep an eye on your friends and make sure they are ok
  • Call 000 if you or a person you know becomes seriously unwell or sustains an injury and stay with the person until help arrives.
